Amrita-HP bags MEDD contract:
Mumbai, June 14: Amrita Technologies in collaboration with HP (India) has bagged the contract from Medical Education and Drugs Department (MEDD), Government of Maharashtra, to build a comprehensive healthcare and educational informatics network connecting all the important functionaries of MEDD, Maharastra.
Maharashtra government, today, approved the project to link 14 government medical colleges and 19 affiliated colleges through Information Technology. The project would be implemented by Hewlett Packard and Amrita Prime Limited on a 'build, own operate and refresh' (BOOR) basis, chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh told reporters after the cabinet meeting. The project would be implemented first in Grant Medical College and JJ Hospital as a pilot project, he said.
Amrita and HP together would design, build and manage a network connecting vital MEDD functionaries across Maharastra and will run centralized Healthcare applications for MEDD. The project is one of the largest of its kind in India in terms of number of Healthcare functionaries involved. The contract will enable MEDD more efficient and cost-effective ways to leverage its healthcare services to public.
The contract would be spread across areas, including business plan preparation, architectural review, design and installation of Amrita Healthcare informatics Suite and University Management System, customization and medical equipment services, manpower services, and technical and maintenance assistance.

The implementation of Amrita HIS involves documenting and managing all types of information, including character data, graphs, X-ray images, MRI or CT scan images through the use of electronic media and computers.
Implementation will help MEDD to directly capture all the information pertaining to a patient, be it administrative or clinical, on the computer system at the point of origin of the data. The information is then made available across the entire MEDD hospital networks via networking and telemedicine. The system allows for centralized access to all organizational and patient data through one single web interface for any authorized user.
With the bulk of medical records stored electronically and much of the data capture done automatically, MEDD can save much of its precious time leading to efficiently and productivity.
Amrita UMS, learning management system from Amrita will help MEDD to develop and support all the major educational-wide administrative and learning management systems. The system can also provide MEDD the foundation to foster research and development on e-learning methodologies.
