Amrita PACS Amrita Picture Archival Communication System (APACS) :

Amrita PACS is first comprehensive hospital-based Picture Archival Communication System (PACS) developed in India , which is one of the most important developments in today's medical care. The system use computers to replace X-ray film, which has been used for almost a century. Amrita PACS allows radiographic images of patients to be taken and then presented and stored on computers rather than on conventional X-ray film.

The biggest benefit derived from Amrita PACS is breaking the physical as well as time barrier for information exchange. Amrita PACS allows the functional ability not only to distribute images to the requestor but communicate to physicians for patient scheduling, download patient demographics to modalities, track image location, and to assemble collaborative material necessary to interpret the image. The images can be made available at all times and at many locations. Studies are available for immediate review and will essentially eliminate lost "X-rays." PACS also allows doctors to consult with the radiologist while each is looking at the same image, even if they are in different parts of the hospital or at a different place altogether.

Amrita PACS provides complete digital image management, storage and distribution. It includes interfaces to all digital modalities, such as CT, CR and MR. It includes diagnostic workstations for reading by radiologists, and referral workstations throughout the facility. It also includes image storage on short-term and long-term archives, and the ability to print selected images to film as needed.

Amrita PACS system is capable of making your the Department of Radiology of your Hospital "filmless." PACS allows remote sites such as doctors' offices to be linked to the system to allow real time access to patients' images. Radiology studies can also be put on CD-ROM for easy access to images by most computers.

The system is supported by Amrita MedVision, a Java Standalone DICOM viewer application developed by Amrita, which also has a web interface with a set of powerful image manipulation tools that can help clinicians and radiologists a lot in the analysis and diagnosis part like window level presets, measurements and magnification. It also supports image annotations and almost all the image manipulation functionalities. Amrita MedVision has the capability to process multi-frame images from high-end modalities like CT and MRI. These frames can be viewed with the cineloop technology.
