Railway Application Package


    KRCL, Railway Application Package (RAP)

    Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd (KRCL) currently owns a unique Railway Application Package (RAP) that is comprehensive and covers all the functionality required for any railroad company. The current system has been developed during the 90's using the legacy Client-Server model. Amrita was awarded the project to re-architect the existing RAP application to contemporary J2EE technology and to improve the architecture of the present solution to provide for better functionality and scalability. The project is developed using open source technologies.

     

    The system involves computerization of all aspects of a railway system. The data capture happens in real-time and subsequently provides information for better decision-making and improved utilization of assets. With this, the management can do fact-based planning, track performance and take better care of customers. It includes a comprehensive package of 19 modules for day to day working of all the departments. These modules cater to all the basic jobs to be done by the personnel of each department. This enables not only the automation of the basic activities but also capturing of the data at the action points. It is much beyond a transactional processing system and helps in the decision making also.

     

    The ported application would provide for a more scalable and robust solution also taking care of most of the problems associated with the legacy architecture. The application would also have more appealing Graphical User Interface instead of the character based interface used.
